Hohenwerfen Castle stands as a strategic bulwark in the 155 meter high rock above the valley Salzachtal, about 40 km south of Salzburg. The castle was founded as a "sister castle" in the Hohensalzburg fortress and its establishment goes back to the 11th century. The castle served for centuries as prisons to function. It was here in 1198 busted example. Archbishop Adalbert III. Now there are a variety of ongoing events, concerts, theater performances and the Castle festival.
